My name is Jim Tily. I am a lawyer in Salt Lake City, and before that I taught tennis for a long time, mostly to kids, some of whom did not want to be there. Both jobs involve a lot of watching people avoid the thing that would help them.

This site has nothing to do with my law practice and does not give legal advice. It is one person's opinion that we have gotten out of the habit of talking to each other, that the internet has made it worse, and that the arrival of machines that will write our e-mails for us is about to make it worse again. I write here when I see something that fits.

There are no ads, no analytics, no comments, and no newsletter. If you want to tell me I am wrong, the best way is to call someone you have been avoiding and see how it goes. Then decide whether I was wrong.

The site is plain HTML on purpose. It loads fast, it works on any phone, and I can fix it myself.
